Alexa,

Yes, I heard that "catsup: the vegetable" came from the Reagan Administration Department of Agriculture. However, they got the idea from President Nixon. Too bad they'd forgotten how the public guffawed Nixon for even suggesting such a thing. Nixon being Nixon, we knew he wasn't joking.

President Carter indeed micromanaged, but I believe his naivety, which reached astounding proportions ("Brezhnev lied to me," etc.), was responsible for his fall from political grace. I think also that he was one of the most intelligent Presidents we have had. There are lots of highly intelligent people out there whom I would not want to see running the country--or much of anything else, for that matter.

Holly

p.s. I too trust that Douglas meant Teddy rather than FDR when he stated that Reagan and Roosevelt would go down in history as the two greatest Presidents of the 20th Century. Of course, I guess he could be thinking of Eleanor too.

Carter's greatest moments, I mean screw ups

He said on national television

"The Russian's lied to me"

Like he was the only one who didn't know they would lie to him? That was a total look at how stupid I am statement

And then

"I asked my daughter Amy"

who was his speach writer anyhow? I'm sure he's a homeless man now. I bet Carter wouldn't even build him a house.

But the hostages really did Carter in. he didn't listen to the CIA's warnings on that one, the botched rescue attempt. Reagan's deal with the Iranian's to hold the hostages until after the elections.
