Modern day aspirin came primarily from the bark of the willow tree which contains high levels of acetylsalicylic acid...

In old western times, when someone had a headache they would make some willow bark tea...

Bayer was able to isolate the acid from the bark and pit it into powder form and called it aspirin, he started selling it commercially in 1899...

It's no coincidence that the first two letters of the word aspirin and the first two letters of the acid sound the same...
