Eve, even Iomega ships its software on CD-ROM although I would hesitate to call shrink-wrapped software distribution a different market as much as it is a different application within the same market. The point is, the CD-ROM is truly universal and that has been driving the increasing popularity of CD recorder devices. Again, I would never store important information on a Zip disk, it's a temporary storage and transfer medium only. In a networked environment, the transfer benefits go out the window unless it's a transfer from home to work. In the latter case, you only need access to a Zip drive on the network so why in the world would you need Zip drives on every computer? I'm puzzled by your assertion that Zip disks are far from noncritical because any new computer we get has to have one. Frankly, it sounds like a very badly run, seat-of-the-pants computer network you have there.
