Semi-off topic - Can't Iraq be bombed without direct US involvement ? I know we've had the lead in this matter, but it really is a UN issue. If other countries did the bombing at this time, Saddam would have a tougher time on the properganda front.

If Clinton orders US planes to bomb Iraq while the scandal is still building, the photos of the resulting dead babies will likely turn even Clinton's most ardent supporters against him.

Thus far the Clinton discussion has revolved around legal and ethical arguments. Perhaps his recklessness in how he conducts his life should be the major issue.

Just my 2 cents

Bob just coined a new word "Clinton-speak". We all need to learn "Clinton-speak" to figure out if he's telling the truth or lying. For example, "did not have an improper sexual relationship" means he had oral sex.

Personally, I think the way you tell if Clinton is lying is to see if his lips are moving.

Truman,

Thank you for a timely, concise report on BB. I was kept out by New York hockey and I'm not sophisticated enough (yet) to listen to him on the Internet. Thanks again.

In "Clinton-speak" (B.B.'s new phrase), telling someone to "lie" is not the same as telling them to "deny" something that really happened. However, in my book, it is absolutely the same thing. All that aside, he allegedly lied in his deposition last week when he said he did not have an affair with M.L. That in and of itself (as I understand it) will be a felony perjury (if proven by the mounting mass of evidence being collected by the prosecution) and therefore an impeachable offense.

If the above is indeed true, what will he do? IMO, he is another O.J. who has lied so much he believes himself. Plus, he doesn't know when to quit. So I can't see him stepping down unless he is forced to - i.e. impeachment.

Impeachment and/or a diversionary tactic such as a short war with Iraq I believe will have a negative (300 - 500 DJIA points) effect on the market. However, after listening to B.B. today, even if that happens I don't think it will take long to recover.

So, the $64M question is: do I pull my money into cash and wait to take advantage of the dip I feel fairly certain will come? Or do I just forget the whole thing, leave my money where it is and worry about trying some market timing when a more predictable swing is in the offing?

Any and all civil suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

Sandy J

RE: "2) Resignation by Mr. Clinton in favor of Mr. Gore."

It looks like option number two is picking up steam.

"Clinton Seeks Help in Growing Sex Scandal

<Picture>President Clinton and Monica Lewinsky hug at the White House in 1996<Picture>

White House recalls Ickes, Kantor for advice; some of president's friends begin to talk about a possible resignation
By Wolf Blitzer/CNN

WASHINGTON (Jan. 24) -- Several of President Bill Clinton's closest friends in and out of government have told CNN they believe he almost certainly did have a sexual relationship with former White House intern Monica Lewinsky and have begun to talk among themselves about the possibility of a resignation. ..."

See the above link for the picture, the rest of the story, links to other related stories, and a video clip of "Returning to the White House the day after his 1996 re-election, Clinton hugs Lewinsky."

This whole thing is just discouraging, disgusting, sickening, etc. etc. Just when the economic scenario was nearly ideal, this comes along.

Best wishes,

I2

Truman,

Did BB say anything about UTEK yesterday or perhaps the entire show was caught up with the Clinton mess just like every TV station is. If there is anything interesting today, I'd appreciate another insightful summary. I have a thirty-fifth wedding anniversary celebration/obligation that I must/want to honor(my own). Just hoping I'll get home for the second half of the Super Bowl. The editor of the Financial Times in England on a TV show this morning agreed with BB's analysis of a resignation i.e. a one day affair. He said that if the Asian Crisis was a ten, a resignation would be a two. "The same people will be running the show."
