Thean,
Having just waded through an enormous number of posts to get here, I have to say cutting down the number of posts and trying to keep them linked to drilling are definitely on target ideas. The problem is that, while the thread depends upon active participation, too many content-challenged posts devalue the thread and make it less useful. It is kind of like a bulletin board version of Gresham's Law in which many people end up abandoning the thread simply because they can't find substantive posts amid all the "bull, bull, bull...". Increasingly, it becomes a chat thread with less participation by those less interested in the chat.
I hope the thread can keep sufficient focus on drilling content. If not the substantive discussion will move elsewhere.
Baird

Originator of thread supports Thean's suggestions:

Thean,

I agree with almost all your suggestions, if it matters at all. I think the two most important things are to restrict unnecessary or redundant posts and to clearly indicate topics (and off-topics) in the first line.
