Maybe now people will pay attention to a persons character before they elect him/her to the highest office in the land.

I hope not. "Character" has come more and more to be a euphemism for "sexual predilections". We do NOT need all politicians' sex lives examined under a microscope. On the contrary, I think we need a general agreement that this stuff is not relevant to a person's ability to perform his/her job, and not appropriate for discussion and analysis in the media.

If we can't manage this, we'll reduce the pool of "qualified" people by yet another 75% or so. I don't think I know anyone who doesn't have something in his/her past personal life that he or she would really rather not read about on the front page of the Washington Post.
