They would still have the base to deal with. Their only option would be to hire a hit man and make him a martyr to their cause. They could then win big in 2020 amidst the angst and confusion.

I agree. I really do not think they have the integrity to do the right thing, but if they decide to put the country ahead of their jobs they could easily do so as you suggest.
