Ideally, you want her to have 2 - 3 heat cycles to let her bones develop well. Also, in North America it is common practice to remove both the uterus and the ovaries. But in Europe, and this clearly the less invasive procedure, they only remove the ovaries. I've read the medical literature on this and despite what any vet may tell you, IF your dog is young, then overiactomy is the right thing to do. But it's not easy to find a vet here that routinely does that.
