3% death rate is low on the scale of doom.

The 69% mortality H5N1 and sars were seriously terrifying except that they did not propagate well as they needed to combine their fatal DNA with a highly transmissible virus in the chain of infection.

The Wuhan flu is not going to combine with a deadly one so it's going to fizzle without mass murder ... but even 3% gives big numbers. Mostly old people and sickly I suppose.
