Trump may have been simply doing his job - making sure that the corruption in Ukraine gets proper attention, before they receive - and possibly misuse - US taxpayer money. But, if one so desires, it can be seen as misuse of office for political reasons. Neither side has the slightest intention of seeing the situation from the other side’s perspective. So, it boils down to decisions along party lines. If enough Rep Senators show “understanding and flexibility” - and decide to be flexible enough to consider the situation from the Left’s perspective - the President could be in trouble. I don’t think this will happen, but it ain’t over until it’s over. Bolton submitted his book to the WH for NSC review to make sure that no secret information gets revealed. Maybe the reviewers didn’t think that some conversation, in passing, between the president and Bolton had security implications. Maybe they thought that a demand to edit it out would look like a coverup. Maybe they let it through on purpose, and failed to bring it up to Trump. No way to know. I think, even if some senators accept that the aid delay was political, they’ll still have to deal with the issue of whether that is reason enough to annul the results of a presidential election - and, for practical purposes, to decide the outcome of the next election. Obama would have laughed off the whole thing. Trump can’t do that. I think it’s incredible how much he accomplished under all the enormous pressure, under constant attacks, betrayals and leaks. We need him to win the second term.
