I'm torn on the witness issue, if I had more confidence in whether the Republicans were really going to go on the attack, I would be all for it. My assessment is they will do "witness light" if it comes to that.

They will talk a big game, and then compromise by having only 4 or 5 witnesses. In that case, I prefer acquittal soonest and move on. The President has all the talking points he needs from the phony impeachment to hammer them during the election cycle.

Lindsey sounded very angry again
It played well for him last time, so he's doing it again. He's a swamp critter par excellence.

They probably hope that the witness thing would last a long time - and continue to tarnish Trump. Keep him under suspicion. Also, it may be their path to finally derail Biden... by keeping him and Hunter in the news. Who would benefit? Presumably, some of their quasi-centrists. Klobuchar? Bloomberg? Hillary?

If “non-extremists” can agree on one candidate, that would make it possible to retire Sanders as well - without appearing to stab him in the back again... and angering Berinie “bros” as little as possible.
