Teddy was more than just better looking. He was a far sighted environmentalist, a real progressive. I am not saying FDR wasn't an amazing historical figure, but many of his social policies have had long reaching and deleterious effects upon societal expectations of government. In combatting the socialism and communism that grew out of the desperation of the Great Depression I would contend FDR coopted too many of the socialist principles in order to appease the masses. He did many things that were despotic, and you can argue that these things were necessary and good if you want to, but the benevolent despot is a despot nonetheless.

As for Nazi Germany, it was the great ecomomic power of the United States that won the war, and the bravery of the British people, and their willingness to tolerate incredible hardship, not FDR. And let's not forget the Russian contribution either, and they were led by Stalin, probably a bigger murderer than Hitler(talk about your "evil empires").
