I figured that either you were dead, or in Costa Rica.

LOL, nearly both. One of the to do things was hiking up Cerro Chirripo, the highest peak in Costa Rica. Its 24 miles round trip (40Km), and about 7.5K ft (actually about 9K ft total due to some lose as well on the way up) of gain and loss. Its normally done over 2 or more days with a stay at a base camp at 10.5Kft (peak is 12.5K ft), and trail start a little under 5Kft. But I only had a 1 day permit, the base camp permits sell out quick and are limited. Anyway, when signing in the day prior, there was a young woman who was there and when she heard me say I had only a 1 day permit and was going to try to do it, asked if she could join me as she was also alone, and not too keen to start out in the dark by herself, but she actually had a base camp stay permit anyway. I told her I hike fast and didn't want to be slowed down, but in the end agreed to let her go with me. My wife guessed her age correctly at 25, but I thought more like 30 maybe. Wife say, "She looks fit, be careful". We started in the dark the next morning, and stupid me, I insisted we swap packs, because her's was twice as heavy as mine, and I insisted she set the pace because I was sure she would be slower than my normal pace. It was less than a half mile before I undid both those mistakes. She handed me my head, but was very sweet about it. In the end, at about 10km and near 10k ft long after the sun was out and more people on the trail I suggested she go on ahead, and I'd meet her at the base camp and we could decide if the summit was still possible. She beat me to the camp by 30 minutes over those last 4km) By the time I made the base camp at 14Km and about 6.4K ft of total gain it was too late to go for the summit in one day. She stayed at the camp and went for the summit the next day, and I turned around for the 14km back out. I was dang near not walking when I made it back to the cabin near the trail head. I waddled around for the next couple of days before taking some vitamin Ibuprofen, which finally helped cure me...

My wife had a good laugh when I told her the tale...
