My father was smart. After I turned eight years old, he introduced me to capitalism by walking in the door one afternoon to tell me I was in the lawn mowing business and he already had found a customer for me which was the lady across the road. Of course I didn't really want to mow lawns then, so I said, "But dad, I don't even have a lawn mower. He said to me, "That's OK. You can borrow mine until you have saved enough to buy your own". It was the beginning of a business my brother and I ran until I was thirteen at which point in time he found me another job that paid better. lol That business paid for our camping equipment, bikes, etc. It taught us the value of a dollar and of hard work. .
