MCI, WorldCom hold off on wireless local loop

MCI Communications Corp. and its proposed partner WorldCom will not be giving wireless local
loop a serious look for at least three years, according to Ray Allieri, MCI senior vice president of
local services.

Answering questions following a speech yesterday by Tim Price, MCI's president and chief
operating officer, and chief executive officer-designate of MCI WorldCom U.S., Allieri commented,
``We are testing all alternatives (for local service) including fixed wireless. However, our primary
way (to enter the local loop) is by reasonably priced, ready access to copper for a long time, at
least three years.''

Allieri also mentioned that MCI's contract with personal communications services licensee
NextWave Telecom Inc. may be re-evaluated in the future if it appears that the C blocker will
continue to have network-buildout difficulties.

``[Our continued contract] depends on when they get financing to build out their networks into
larger markets,'' he said.
