Greta: GTE has several business units. Two of the three units have contracts with Westell. The third, GTE-ILEC still hasn't officially made a decision on it's vendor. I'm not sure when the announcment is coming. I did hear that Alcatel/Reltec is one of the finalists, but I wasn't aware of Netspeed. I'm hoping the LU/Westell team can win this one. Have you heard anything of AG Communications being a finalist? GTE owns ~10% of this joint venture with Lucent....until later.

PS. DSC is #1 in the NGDLC with Reltec #2 and LU #3.

greta--

i am sceptical about the likelyhood of an ALA or netspeed win of GTE ILEC. GTE has trialed (to my knowledge) only WSTL and AMTX modems, so basically they have only used WSTL. in addition, all the GTE business units have contracts with WSTL for xDSL services. i dont think the ILEC is going to be any different.

righ now, netspeed doesnt have anything to my knowledge. i know they have announced a g.lite product, but i do not know if it has been released yet. i also think they have some good technology for modem pooling, but....i dont think these things are enough to derail a WSTL win.

as for ALA, they are the 500 lbs. gorilla. they could get some of the business, maybe an initial rollout order for DSLAMs, until WSTL gets theirs out the door. more than that, i doubt they will win.

good luck to all,
trey
