Dovi,

I think Lester Thurow's article is excellent and want to thank S Banerjee for posting it.

This is the Silicon "Investor" forum vs the the "Economist" forum. As an investor, I am not here to debate whether Gilder or Thurow is correct in predicting the future, just how the market behaves. Sometimes wrong opinions could be a lot more valuable than right opinions. One of the big problem with economists is theory vs reality. While I agree with Thurow's suggestion on IMF role, in reality, he is grossly underestimating the power of the Chaebols. Further more, he is totally insensitive to the nationalistic sentiments. Most countries mentioned resent the fact that the US, directly or in the name of the UN, Human Rights Commission, IMF etc, tells the rest of the world how they should rule and regulate.

Changes create opportunity. If the market one day adopts Thurow's theory as gosbel and drops accordingly, it may be another indicator of a market bottom.

<<!! Just want to say take him with a big grain of salt! Now if you want somebody with a good record post some Gilder or Drucker on the thread! Not traditional economists but at least they know what they are talking about and have a RECORD OF CORRECT PREDICTIONS. Economics are changing and clowns like Thurow keep writing the same old stuff.>>

Amen, Dovi. I was going to post a stinging reply criticizing Lester Thurow and his flat-earth, statist economic theories. But yours would do very well. Thurow is a crackpot (disguised as an economist) that worshiped the centrally planned economy of Japan in the 80's. I'm surprised that he's still around spouting nonsense. The development of the '90s should have thoroughly discredited him.

Anyone out there who is going to post anything or link anything economic by Lester Thurow, James Fallows, Robert Kuttner or Robert Reich (and now add George Soros), be assured that a strong rebuttal/refute would be forthcoming. These are the guys that are providing cover for the statists and socialists now in hiding.

For a more accurate reading of the developoments in Asia, read anything written/spoken by Paul Krugman or Milton Friedman.

Re: >clowns like Thurow<

Thanks for saying that for me. Never met a more pompous, self-serving, donkey's behind in my life. If Lester says the sky is falling we should all give serious consideration to the opposite conclusion. Just my opinion. -JLF
