N95 masks are still widely available at hardware stores in the US...designed for use when spray painting or for when working around fine dust particles. They are cheaper (under a $1 in bulk) and likely more effective than a normal surgical mask. I doubt there is much if any difference between these and the N95 medical/virus masks, but don't know for sure.
