As most of you know, I favored Bernie in the Primaries last time, and voted for Hillary once she became the nominee.

I am supporting Bloomberg this time because I believe he has the best chance of winning with a large enough vote to help the Democrats take the Senate, which as we have seen, is just as important as taking the White House. He also has a record of accomplishment on issues that matter to me.

I like many of Bernie's policies, but the U.S. is not Europe, and it certainly isn't Norway. The Scandinavian countries participated in the slave trade, but they now regret it. The United States fought a Civil War that killed 600,000 people. While we abolished slavery on paper, there are still many in this Country who romanticize the antebellum south.

Conservative religion isn't taken seriously in much of Europe, but it is here. There is an Elmer Gantry on every street corner in the rural South and their followers often vote as they are directed.

This Country isn't ready for many of the good progressive ideas. The kids get excited about Bernie, but for the most part they don't vote.

I am leaving Kentucky because the culture of the rural South is toxic. That is not to say that there aren't good people who enjoy rural living here, but there are just not enough of them. IMHO.

Bernie will be branded as a socialist, and even a communist by right wing media because he has touted fringe ideas in the past and played footsie with communists too. We can’t afford that distraction. Bernie can certainly have a place in the next Dem administration and can do great things for the country. Just not at the top of the ticket.
