Re: "Hi Jim, what are your thoughts about PairGain's Falcon chip?"

Hi Jim, what are your thoughts about PairGain's Falcon chip?:
biz.yahoo.com

Your opinion is one that I have come to respect. Its low power consumption sounds very impressive. Jeremic made some comment to Mark Lewin in a prior post about how he would view a merger between Westell and PairGain:
I don't think I saw a reply. Knowing jeremic's batting average on mergers I take such innocent comments as more than just wild speculation.

Well my jaw hurts, it just dropped and hit my desk, mainly because of the surprise that Harris Semiconductor is doing the analog front end (AFE). How did I miss this????
biz.yahoo.com

Harris Semiconductor is just down the road in Melbourne. As you probably know Harris Semi is manufacturing Orckits VDSL chip.

Also surprising to me:
''PairGain has been developing this DMT ADSL technology for the past four years,'' said Howard Flagg, President of PairGain Technologies. "

This is not what I have heard from PairGain over the past 2 years, far from it, both in reasearch and talking to PAIR at the trade shows. I would really be surprised if this is fact! 4 years???????

They sure have keep it quiet.......

Regardless of MHO, this news and the fact that earnings are due out, plus the fact they will demonstrate a FALCON-based DMT RADSL Megabit Modem at ComNet, should lead to a substantial increase in stock price in the near term.

As I've stated over on the AMTX thread when the first statements about MSFT & INTEL having a coming out party in FEB were heard in Nov/Dec 97, "The hype by these two could send the DSL'ers soaring like they did in the 2Q of 96".

With the latest news over the past two weeks of Compaq, TI coming in, PAIR's latest announcements, and the fact that all this will be touted at ComNet, I think my earlier comments may come to fruition.

I thank you for your comments about my opinion, though I will mention that over the past 2 months I have not been keeping up with every little detail.

As far as WSTL/PAIR merger I don't see it, but if there were any real truth to this, I would be buying lot's of PairGain, I'd sell the house, car, the dog and my numismatic collection " only a figure of speech".........:^}

I'll have to do more research on the Falcon Chip, but so far with Harris in the picture, and what I've read to date, it looks like a winner, and PAIR being around $19, it sure looks like a good time to pop in.

Again the latest hype could well drive the DSL er's up big time. Remember that the hype "that DSL was real in 96" drove PAIR from $10 to $120 from Jan to June and then split, and WSTL from $10 to $80 and Split, and Amati from $6 to 36.

Will history repeat itself? Only time will In'tell.

[WSTL-PAIR Merger

Hi Mike,

Re: Westell and PairGain merging.
I think their ill fitting. Pacific Bell and other big regional phone companies account for more than half of PairGain's sales. PacBell has selected Alcatel. Wouldn't Westell be merging with its competitor? Also, back in 1991 when PAIR was on the financial ropes Alcatel lent PAIR $5million so there must be some historical attachment there. I'm wondering if Alcatel would benefit from purchasing PAIR. PAIR has developed some sophiticated signal processing technology and Alcatel has manufacturing capacity. I own both WSTL and PAIR and have concluded there's plenty of market for each.
