Why not try to guess? I would like to know. But I just don't think that it is so easy. I thought your post was good. It helped broaden the perspective.

I used to work in the mining industry. Metal sales and inventories are reported periodically. There are many many difficulties with the numbers (e.g. imports/exports to China) and certain numbers are unavailable (private stocks of metals) but these numbers are the lifeblood of both traders and purchasers/sellers of metal. However, without being very knowledgeable about these numbers it is possible to be totally wrong in your conclusions. Inventory numbers, the key, are revised drastically periodically to compensate for large cummulative errors.

In the computer industry, shipments of product in some cases are well measured and reported and in other cases are not. Hardware is better measured than software and services has historically been the most difficult to track. Years ago there was a real scandal with respect to robotics. A major brokerage firm was the accepted expert on robotics sales. Because of a trade dispute with Japan the government forced the suppliers to report their actual sales which turned out to be about half of what had been reported by this brokerage firm. The problem was all of the layers of sales among companies for value added purposes. There was a lot of double counting. Many investors lost money when the true sales levels for the U.S. industry came out.

It would be very helpful if we had weekly data on sales by title in the electronic games industry. Perhaps we have this to some extent. I certainly would like to know who is selling what.

With respect to Clinton, no doubt that he is compromised from the perspective of history. Chances are he will now be very weak which is a real danger to the world economic situation and our ability to deal with issues like Iraq. He may be forced to resign or be impeached. But I think the chances of any near term impeachment are still low that is all.

Embarrassing? I am not at all embarrassed. Angry yet saddened is much more like it. This obsession with sex could happen to anyone and it is a shame for Clinton that he was unable to deal with his personal problem in a better way. But then there is the impact on me. I am concerned about my investments and long term safety from countries like Iraq. My personal welfare and the welfare of my family and friends has been compromised by Bill Clinton and the people around him.
