Teddy, BOP = Blow Out Preventer. Also refered to as the BOP "stack" since it is a stack of usually 3 safety devices below the drill floor through which the drill pipe passes. Its purpose is to prevent a blow out when excessive formation pressure overcomes the weight of the column of drilling fluid and oil and/or gas tries to escape to the atmosphere.

Teddy--

Kenny answered the BOP stack question for you, here's a resource
that will give you a good, basic overview of the Offshore biz:
"A Primer on Offshore Operations" published by U. of Texas, Austin.
Great stuff if you're interested in what these companies actually
do for a living. Just looked all over the scatter for their catalog,
may have gone to recycling...but the book lists this ph. no.
1-800-687-4132. If you are interested, you should get their catalog,
lotsa stuff. I know they have a website, been there, but I can't
find the URL. Fire up the ol' Alta Vista...try 'Petex', or U. of TX.
I got it free (it's ~$25) from an IR dep't., but you'll have to
E-mail me for that one, they we're good to me, no sense starting
a run...

Declining short interest in RB/FLC makes mine a happier camp!!
