Thomas;
<<Anyway, the news for the Malaysian Silicon Valley town and
Banglore IT park seem almost too good to be true...>>

Interesting response..my wife had exactly the same response.
She says she will believe it when she sees it. My own view
is that Cyber Jaya and the Multi Media Super Corridor are so
internationally visible that there will be political hell to
pay if it does not come off in time. The thing that has me
wondering is the telecommunications part of it. Telekom Malaysia
has to be the absolute worse (in performance) I have ever seen.
Trying to get a new line installed or a repair done is like
trying to part the Red Sea. And the employees (most of them
hold over bureaucrats from the days Telekom was a Gov't agency)
are the most apathetic and pathetic people I have ever had the
misfortune to deal with. I think one of Malaysia's biggest
weaknesses is its telecommunications scenario with power
distribution (Tenaga) being a close second.

A wonderful story I heard on the golf course was from a
Mngng Dir of a very large prestige hotel here. It seems he had
Tenaga executives and Telekom executives in his hotel
simulataneously for VIP functions. The power went out. Telekom
folks were howling, giving the Hotel MD a really hard time, because
the power had failed during the Chairman's speech. The hotelier finally got flustered
and told them to go see the Tenaga guys meeting down the hall.
In the meantime, the Tenaga guys were upset also. When the power went off they couldnt get through on the phone lines to the main office
of Tenaga to find out what had happened. The two angry groups met
in the hallway in a finger pointing brawl. He swore it was a true
story.

Best,
Stitch
