getgo:

LSI has a significant presence in Fibre Channel. The FC market is anticipated to grow to 200 billion dollars in the next 3-5 years if I remember correctly. If LSI has commanding market share for the ICs for this market and the market is growing this fast LSI is looking at a major scoop.

In the c.call Wilf Baby mentioned that they have over 80% of all design wins. 80%! That just blew me away. But 80% of design wins for exactly what: hard drives? networking-related? or the entire smorgasboard?...

I hope it's the entire enchillada. The grand salami. The full monte. This is much better than the DCAM and DVD win percentages which are themselves very significant.

However even if it isn't 80% of the grand burrito, the big sombrero, it nevertheless means that their competitors have less than 20% of something. With the FC market compounding at well over 100%, LSI should really shine here.

Merlin weaves its Magic:

LSI Logic adds the industry's first Fibre Channel core
to its extensive CoreWarer library. It is the first cost
effective, gigabit per second serial architecture with
automated control functions for disk drives, RAID
arrays, Internet servers, video on demand, imaging and
transaction processing.

As an aside I know enterprise storage will make big time use of FC and it is just now beginning to ramp up. Enterprise storage is a booming market. Just ask EMC.
