Thomas and Mohan;
<<Nestle is a very global player. I doubt that ex-Japan is making such a big difference to their bottom line. They have a big presence in Japan. Seems like Japanese are crazy for their Nescafe instant coffee. According to the uncle of a friend of mine who lives and works in Japan (the uncle), Nestle has about 80% of the instant coffee market in Japan.>>

I don't think Nestle has that large a market share in the Japanese coffee market. UCC is by far and away a more visible brand there. On the other hand Nestle brands are apparent everywhere in SE Asia. Aside from Nescafe other very visible
products include Milo (a sort of choclate cereal drink), Ice Cream,
and cold and hot breakfast cereals. Mestle has a huge brand recognition all over Asia.

But insofar as Mohan's notion of proxy investing in Asia I think it misses the point. I would want to look for way undervalued stocks that are more oriented to exprt from Asia then those dependent on sales into Asia at this time. Asian's just are not going to be spending as much as they were.
