[orctf g.lite]

Hi Mark

thanks for posting the (good) news... don't usually check pcweek...
not much of a lead in, but at least it sounds like orctf/fujitsu has a plan for g.lite week <g>

actually looked thru the Comnet exhibitors list and was disappointed not to find orctf or fujitsu (other than fujitsu nexion- there's also some news to watch for)... thought something might be announced this week due to volume of the last couple of weeks...

find the use of "proprietary" interesting... kind of out of character... (off hand only remember one other orctf use of the word, believe in a vdsl context...)....sounds like the spin is standards compliant g.lite with proprietary features...(a better mousetrap?).. suppose we'll hear some details soon enough.

would guess this portion to be the essential orctf attitude (as nigel cole is also orctf vp):

"While the consortium is aiming to complete g.lite by year's end, industry experts warn that the technology is far from stable. "There are many technical frequency issues that have to be solved. It takes a great deal of filtering and tweaking to the signal processor in a modem to [make it] operate without an [analog] splitter," said Nigel Cole, technical adviser to the ADSL Forum in Fremont, Calif."
