Thanks brian, this is interesting stuff and bears looking into. While, imho, it should not be overlooked that the Kazakhs have treated Little Canadian Companies foully and unfairly, it should also not be overlooked that some of those LCCs came striding into K-stan, as Robert says, looking for conquests like "Cort‚s and Pizarro". There are two sides to every story. Actually more - there is a side for every participant. So maybe the Kazakh rulers will learn not to abuse the providers of capital, and the LCCs will in turn straighten up their acts, and while I will remain a really really pissed-off holder of CGZ shares, I will maybe consider picking up some Steppe shares on weakness.
