This analysis is dated but worth a re-read. In particular, importance of U.S. as a safe haven has increased since it was written.

Now, Paul, I didn't say they wouldn't be selling ANY treasuries, b/c they ALREADY HAVE...but they aren't going to dump them or sell them in any great quantity until they get their fiscal house in order. Twould be financial suicide, credit-wise on a global scale.

Think about it, Paul...
If you are busy exporting XYZ to other nations, what currency would you want back in your coffers?  or $?

I rest my case...
