Dear Jane and James,
Precisely my point. This is about a personal relationship with a living God who is planning each of our lives with perfection and we have these huge planks in our eyes when we start telling others what exactly they should do. Alot of these issues come back to a Romans 14 issue as to what each person feels is important is a matter of conscience and should be done unto the Lord. So if a person wants to be baptised a hundred times to get their conscience cleared and feel confident in their salvation Go For It!! To me it is not necessary or limits God for I have heard many accounts of Jews becoming believers on the trains going to be exterminated and I can not accept that Jesus would not accept them because (they had no water and were dying of thirst) there was was no water baptism. Lets look at this in a broader perspective, Jesus said to John that he should do this for it was right. So this should be our verse that it is right not required. I can't comprehend a God of love as He is casting a baby or young child into the eternal abyss set up for satan and his angels. I am not telling anyone what they should do for them and their families I am just saying to walk with Him and obey Him whatever way and time He wants you baptised.
Some interesting thoughts on the Lords baptism, after Rosh Hashanah (the feast of trumpets) there is a very serious time of repentance and seeking to cleanse your life in prepararion of Yom Kippur (day of atonement). The water was used as a symbol of releasing your sins (tasch Lisch) and water baptisms were done during this time. Then on Yom Kippur they took 2 goats, one was used as a scapegoat that took the sins of Israel into the desert and the other was sacrficed and the blood sprinkled on the Mercy Seat in the Holy of Holies. Where did the Lord go right after His baptism? I believe His temptation in the desert was part of the atomement process for He truly carried the sins of Israel and the whole world upon Him. Also. I believe the baptism helped prepare Him for satans temptation coming.
May the Lord bless all of you, Nancy
