That's a great point Slacker....and not to mention the added stress of the lockup.. wonder what % of the popln is claustrophobic .. in all seriousness.

As a long timer 15+... I have rarely sold.. and if anything tried to add when things looked bleak... it's starting to get tempting..

That's useful and encouraging as you say. . The age and health of passengers almost certainly boost virulence there, but the ship is a useful case study because it was a closed population.

Another caveat: deaths lag diagnosis, there could well be more deaths among the latest new cases. It would be useful to divide deaths by known cases a week or two earlier, which would give a higher estimated mortality rate.

That would give a mortality rate (thus far) of .56% in a mostly older demographic with presumably top rate medical care.

It will take time to tease out the demographic factors. However, a story from The Telegrah points to lifestyle factors, such as smoking, having significant impact. "Smokers at increased risk of coronavirus complications, leading experts warn"

A fifth Diamond Princess cruise passenger has died, according to Japanese news source Kyodo News and the latest Johns Hopkins death count from the ship. The man is from the U.K., according to Kyodo and the BBC.

The British passenger is the fifth person to die from the outbreak aboard the Diamond Princess and is the first person from his country to succumb to the virus.
