YOu might be right. The combo of the Asian FLu/Monica Blew problems might put a damper on things. But, I don't know just how much the market really thinks CLinton is the reason as why things are going so well. Greenspan's going nowhere and either is Rubin, unless he, too , was involved with Monica. It will be interesting to see what happens tomorrow none the less.

Agreed, but Japan is up 2+% right now. They don't seem worried about Asia's problems at the moment. As for a deluge of imports, does IDTI have any Asian competitors with the types of products it's developed over the last year or so? Essentially you're saying margins of some American companies will decline as import pricing pressures grow which in turn may lead us into a recession. Sordid politics won't help. It is a risky proposition, and I feel a really super wall of worry. Insider buying, though selective, has picked up steam across the board -- even semis! -- indicating to me an imminent rally after this sell-off. Additionally, the dramatice decline in interest rates should spur some growth and a rally in the market. People are refinancing like mad. I haven't checked market sentiment figures, but I'll bet that sentiment is more bearish than at any time during this market pause.

another chapter for advise & consent?

even if not, this is to say you are not alone in
your general concern for the welfare of the
market.

on the one hand, there are so many competing
interests in some sectors, eg. interconnectivity,
bandwidth, data broadcasting, cable modems,
and dsl that this fervor seems at times enough
to buoy the malaise...( even systems on a chip
in that context )

but on the other, factors which invite panic seem
to be festering, and i have little faith in the herd mentality.

my solution, for now, post as much information as possible
and trust that logic will prevail.

Perhaps the market will take Clinton's problems in stride. It's not like a new unknown problem from out of the blue. He'll still get credit for the current decent economic climate with an approaching balanced budget. Would the investment community let a 24 year old throw the market? (I'm afraid to answer).

I see where Value Line's Friday mailing with the Semiconductor section has IDTI rated at a "2" which is above average. They have the earnings for FY97Q4 (ending 3/31/98) at $0.05 for a projected total of 0.13 for FY97, and the next four quarters at 0.15, 0.20, 0.25, and 0.30 for a total of 0.90 for FY98.
