Thanks. Although they are now famous for truffle "hunting", they are actually retriever type farm dogs. They are also great companion dogs. Their personality is similar to labradoodles.

Instead of paying that much money for them in the US, you could take a vacation in the Italian cottage country and pick one up on the cheap. Your total cost, including the vacation will likely be the same.

I could say the same thing about Dobermans, Schnauzers, etc. Take a vacation to Spain. Enjoy yourself. And pick up your dog for a total cost of about the same as buying one here.

There are also places that will ship you the pooch from Europe, but I am not that trusting.

$1000 US is the most I've spent for a dog and over 500 miles one way is the farthest I've driven to pick up a puppy.
