All the progressive movement is about, is applying modern social science to government action.

Definitely not true. Science works within value commitments. A commitment to a more humane society (affordable health care for everyone, affordable education, strong safety nets, etc.) is a value choice, not a science choice.

It's my value choice and, I gather, yours. But science is voiceless on that preference. It can tell you, given that value choice, what is likely to happen given very specific paths within. That's all.

And that's setting to the side whether "science" is an appropriate term to apply to the study of social reality.
