(NASDAQ:IFMX), the leading provider of innovative database technology today announced that Hana Bank, selected by Euromoney Magazine as the best financial institution for the past 5 years, has chosen Informix(R) Dynamic Server(TM) with Extended Parallel Option(TM) for their Strategic Information System (SIS). The Strategic Information System will provide Hana Bank with a data warehouse solution that will manage the rapidly changing financial and credit information about Hana Bank customers worldwide. SIS will provide the capability to analyze customer data for marketing and sales purposes with the intent to deliver better service and increase bank profits. SIS is scheduled to be in production in the first half of 1998. "We selected Informix because they supplied us with the most suitable database for online transaction processing and OLAP/data warehousing environments," said SangHoon Choi, project manager for the data warehouse team at Hana Bank. "Informix Dynamic Server with the Extended Parallel Option was thoroughly evaluated, particularly in the areas of scalability, processing rate, and ease of manageability. Since we needed to build a large capacity data warehouse on a MPP system, we tested the system extensively to make sure it could meet our capacity needs." In addition, the MetaCube(TM) ROLAP Option was also selected after doing a competitive benchmark against SAS and Oracle Discoverer. Hana Bank plans to scale the data warehouse to over 1 terabyte in size by next month. The system will run OLTP applications on Pyramid Technology's RM 600 systems and OLAP applications on an RM1000 MPP system. "Informix is rapidly becoming the database standard for financial services organizations as they use data warehousing to transition their industry from a product-centric focus to a customer-centric focus," said Tony Rodoni, director of product marketing, Informix. "We are happy to see Hana Bank join Fleet Street Bank, First Union National Bank and others into our family of data warehousing customers." Informix in Data Warehousing Informix provides the only truly scaleable and extensible database powerful enough to support large data warehouse implementations, especially as end users increase in numbers and the database grows from tens or hundreds of gigabytes to multiple terabytes. At the core of the Informix data warehouse solution is Informix Dynamic Server, which supports both OLTP and data warehousing applications and offers built-in parallelism and dynamic administration to guarantee the performance and availability essential for today's demanding data warehousing systems. The Extended Parallel Option optimizes Informix Dynamic Server for loosely coupled or shared-nothing computing architectures, including clusters of symmetric multiprocessors and massively parallel processors. The option features proven near-linear scalability to hundreds of processors for the highest performance, even on terabytes of business data. The MetaCube ROLAP Option provides a multidimensional view of the data warehouse, enabling customers to analyze data using open data warehouse tools.
