NEW YORK, Jan 26 (Reuters) - Stocks to watch this morning:
-- U.S. stocks in London were steady in quiet trade as
investors waited for a slew of fourth quarter corporate
earnings, and the latest developments in the sex scandal
hitting the White House.
-- Compaq Computer Corp is proposing to buy Digital
Equipment for $9.6 billion by offering $30 per share in
cash plus 0.945 Compaq shares. Compaq closed Friday at 31-3/4.
Digital closed at 45-7/16.

Jeff,

CPQ/Digital. So that explains the extra 1.4B shares of stock that CPQ authorized. They had to be doing something with it. They missed an opportunity with ASND.

As Blankmind noted, I explicitly dropped the idea of a CPQ/ASND merger several weeks ago (and, in my mind, I dropped it after December went by with no action on that front).
