Young Turks Beg Bernie Sanders to ‘Hit’ Joe Biden’s ‘Mental Decline’

Ana Kasparian and Cenk Uygur, hosts of the Young Turks, urged Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) to target Joe Biden’s “obvious” “mental decline” during their Democrat primary election coverage livestream on Tuesday.

“[Bernie Sanders] has got to get out of that comfort zone,” said Kasparian, noting Sanders’ refusal to highlight Biden’s frequent misstatements and slurred speech as evidence of the former vice president’s impaired cognition. “He’s got to hit [Joe Biden] where it hurts.”

The Young Turks spent fifteen minutes commenting on Biden’s cognition and urging Sanders to make the former vice president’s declining mental state a campaign issue.

ICYMI: @JoeBiden has made more than a few gaffes on the campaign trail. Here's a snippet of that.

Should @BernieSanders use these as examples to attack Biden? #tytlive

Noting Biden’s cognition is “not a personal attack,” stated Uygur, leading up to the Young Turks airing a montage of Biden’s misstatements, lost trains of thought, and slurred speech. “There have been endless examples of Biden’s cognitive decline,” he added.

The Young Turks recalled Biden’s failure to recall the Declaration of Independence’s best-known clause as an illustration of the former vice president’s dulling mental acuity. They also reflected on Biden confusing Margaret Thatcher and Angela Merkel.

“That is a thing that often happens when folks are getting older and having trouble with their mental faculties,” Uygur said. Biden’s mental degradation is “something that is obvious [and] we all see with our own eyes,” he added.

Biden would lose 2020’s presidential election to President Donald Trump if nominated by Democrats, warned Uygur.

“At the beginning of this election, this primary season, I said every Democrat running can beat Donald Trump,” Uygur remarked. “I said Joe Biden could definitely beat Donald Trump. I now have changed my mind based on new evidence. When you look at that, they’re going to eviscerate him. They’re gonna run that on a loop for six months straight.”

“Mainstream media” is ignoring evidence of Biden’s mental decline, Kasparian said, echoing remarks made last week by Ann Coulter to Breitbart News.

“I don’t think it serves anyone well for Bernie to quote-unquote ‘take the high road’ and avoid commenting on what all of us can see, especially when we all see it. And right now, everyone on the left is being gaslit by corporate Democrats. … Now they’re turning around [and] gaslighting everyone else who’s bringing it up,” Kasparian stated.

Kasparian added, “It is not considered going low in addressing the very thing that jeopardizes Democrats beating Donald Trump in the general election,” calling on Democrats to nominate “someone who is not experiencing any type of mental decline.”

News media outlets will “have no prayer of covering it up” in a general election, estimated Uygur of Biden’s apparent dulling mental acuity.

Kasparian shared an open plea for Sanders to highlight Biden’s mental faculties.

“I say this with the hope that Bernie hears what I’m saying, and I know I’m not the only one. They’re gonna attack you as being a vicious person, a divisive person, a horrible person that goes against unity no matter what you do. You can be the most pleasant person, you can call Joe Biden your friend every single day, every single hour of every single day. They don’t care. They’re gonna attack you anyway, so please address something that everyone sees, your supporters see, but are currently being gaslit about on social media and in the mainstream press. Please.”

On Sunday, Breitbart News Senior Editor-at-Large Joel Pollak described the question of Biden’s mental fitness as central to Democrat voters.

OOPS! GOP-controlled Senate REJECTS CORRUPT MORON DeVos rule restricting aid for defrauded students

Betsy Devos had a rough year in Washington

Senators on Capitol Hill voted on Wednesday to reject a student loan rule proposed by Education Secretary Betsy DeVos that would have changed how defrauded students sought relief.

The GOP-controlled Senate passed S.J.Res.56, which is a version of a bill that reverses DeVos’ new rule on how her department processes debt relief claims made by students who had been defrauded by mainly for-profit colleges that were deemed predatory.

Experts widely considered the new regulations to be more cumbersome for the students, and consumer advocates filed a lawsuit against the proposed policy change.

“This vote shows that Congress is finally willing to hold this administration accountable for Secretary Betsy DeVos’ repeated protection of exploitative schools,” Ben Miller, vice president for Postsecondary Education at the Center for American Progress, said in a statement. “This administration’s borrower defense rule used the wheels of bureaucracy to crush ripped-off students through unfair evidence standards and a process they had no hope of successfully completing. We are glad to see bipartisan recognition of these flaws.”

In January, House Democrats had voted to rejected DeVos’ new rules, using the Congressional Review Act. On Wednesday, the Senate voted to pass the Senate version of the House bill, 53-42, with 10 Republican votes.

Before Wednesday’s vote, Senator Dick Durbin (D-Illinois) emphasized how much was at stake for these students.

“Many of these students incurred substantial student debt based on the representations and misrepresentations of these colleges and universities,” he stated. “Now they find out the school have gone bankrupt in some cases... here’s the student deep in debt having wasted years of their lives in these for-profit colleges.”

American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten applauded the vote and Durbin’s efforts: “In a time of great political divide, it’s clear that the secretary’s efforts to privilege profiteers at the expense of students can no longer be above reproach. America is onto Betsy DeVos. We thank Sen. Richard Durbin for his leadership, and all the Democrats and Republicans who voted to reject DeVos’ poisonous agenda.”

Borrower defense rule designed to help victims of fraudThe borrower defense rule was written into law through the Higher Education Act in the early 1990s. It was meant to help victims of fraudulent schools seek relief.

Under existing law, borrowers with federal loans are eligible for loan forgiveness if a college or a university has misled them or engaged in other misconduct in violation of certain state laws.

In 2015, after the for-profit giant Corinthian Colleges fell, many former students decided to seek relief for their student loans through the rule.

More than 200,000 claims are now with the Department of Education (ED) which is responsible to decide who is entitled to the relief.

After assuming her position as secretary, DeVos overturned existing Obama-era rules and made it “intentionally difficult” for those applicants, Democrats stated previously.

“She made it extremely difficult for these students to get any relief from the student debt ... she has established a new standard that each of the students has to prove that there was in fact an intentional defrauding,” Durbin said on Wednesday. “What does that mean? Each of these students has to lawyer up.”

DeVos said Obama ‘weaponized’ the borrower defense ruleBut DeVos has previously defended her agency, alleging that the Obama administration had left behind a mess.

“When borrower defense arrived in 1995, it ... was little used… in the 20 years from 1995 to 2015, fewer than 60 claims were filed,” she said during a previous hearing in front of the House Committee on Education and Labor. “Then the previous administration weaponized the regulation against schools it simply didn’t like. They applied the law in a discriminatory fashion. So since 2015, there has been a 5,000% increase in borrower defense claims.”

According to a report by the nonprofit Institute for College Access & Success, 53% of defrauded students’ debt was forgiven under Obama-era rules. That number fell to just 3% in DeVos’ term.

DeVos’ rule “makes it impossible for future defrauded students to receive the borrower defense discharge Congress intended,” argued Durbin. “These schools take the money and run, and the students end up holding the bag with massive debts.”

But President Donald Trump had already made it clear that he was going to veto the resolution if it made it to his desk. On Tuesday, he told Republican senators that he was “neutral” on the resolution, Politico reported.
