John F., as a CPQ investor myself, my gut reaction is telling me Compaq is paying way too much for DEC (a-la IBM and Notes). I don't question the motives, but paying $15 over market value for a company's service business (and its customers) seems steep. I don't know how much worth CPQ is putting into Alpha, but I hope its not too much. Also, there is much uncertainty about whether DOJ will allow DEC to sell its fabs to Intel...If not, then ???.

Of course, I haven't done the math yet, so I could be way off, but this is just my 1st reaction.
