Probably the easiest thing to do is close schools because that crap spreads like wild fire through families. I would think two weeks would be sufficient to abate the growth through schools and then to families.

Yeah, but the point remains that China, SK, HK, and Singapore have stopped it more or less. WTF is wrong with the Western countries? Why suddenly are they all rolling over to play dead? I don't get it. We have been shown that its possible to win. The Asians have shown us the way. Aren't American's the greatest? Why can't we not only do it, but improve a bit on what the Asians did? We at least have the advantage of more info than they did, courtesy of them. Plus more time.

Good read. The strain on the healthcare system caused by a fast growing epidemic has a major amplifying effect on the deadliness of the virus.

Worth quoting:

"If you are an overworked nurse battling a novel disease under the most desperate circumstances, and you simply cannot treat everyone, however hard you try, whose life should you save? Despite those years of theory, I must admit that I have no moral judgment to make about the extraordinary document published by those brave Italian doctors. I have not the first clue whether they are recommending the right or the wrong thing. But if Italy is in an impossible position, the obligation facing the United States is very clear: To arrest the crisis before the impossible becomes necessary. This means that our political leaders, the heads of business and private associations, and every one of us need to work together to accomplish two things: Radically expand the capacity of the country’s intensive-care units. And start engaging in extreme forms of social distancing. Cancel everything. Now."

While Italy has the highest numbers now, outside China, I fear Iran will overtake. Italy's healthcare system is ranked quite highly in many studies. And the numbers produced by Italy makes sense — they follow the expected exponential curve. Iran's daily numbers have flattened out already, which I fear indicate lack of capacity to detect cases, rather than any slowdown in the epidemic. Deaths in Iran are still increasing exponentially.
