Steve,

DEC has an old Intel cross-license(Do cross-licenses remain intact after an acquisition? Or are there clauses that cancel the license in the event of an acquisition?). The settlement gave DEC another cross-license with Intel, presumably for more recent technology(I don't know what the purchase does to the settlement). At the very least, Compaq is now in control of DEC's slot 1-like interface(EV6 bus protocol) which AMD will be using for K7. So does Compaq publish the EV6 spec as an open standard? The trade rags will probably shed some light on this.

There has to be more to this purchase, then meets the eye.
