Pugs, I never said I supported illegal shorting; I just said that by extorting money out of the MMs, the cartel is basically trying to manipulate the price of the stock, as did the shorters (if they exist). There's certainly nothing wrong with calling for certificates; but, as I understand the cartel's strategy, they plan to hold, selling off only little portions until the price reaches $100, $200, even $500 (Riley's numbers). This is taking advantage of the short position to manipulate the price.

Let me put it this way. If you, as the owner of a company, found one of your employees embezzling money, would you blackmail him, or would you report him to the authorites? If you extorted the money from him, you would be giving him what he deserved, but wouldn't you be committing an illegal act? Does one illegal act justify another?

Can you answer one question for me? Can you or anyone else point me to the staute or regulation which prevents MMs from selling naked shorts? I don't believe I've seen a reference to it, and it would help me understand better the mechanics of the short squeeze.
