But that is exactly the point, if you are trying to prevent the entry of the virus, do something about that when letting your citizens back in. Trump should have articulated something intelligent about how US citizens were going to be allowed back in. Trump's responsibility was to 330 million American in the USA. He failed miserably at that because he was stuck on 15 soon to be zero and similar idiot things. Until too late.

The very interesting thing is that when its all said and done, we will be able to look back through the data and point out with quite good accuracy how each delay in action caused the death of XX more Americans, because as each new step in control is taken, it will show up in the data with a time lag and the increased deaths resulting from that will be calculated.

I'll annotate a log plot of this along with choice Trump comments and actions after a few more weeks have let things evolved.

You seem to have the impression that closing borders is the only solution, and that, because many European countries have now done just that, this vindicates that point of view. It does not.

Let's look at the successful responses to CV around the world - Singapore, Taiwan, and, to a lesser extent, South Korea. These countries are keeping a lid on CV by aggressively testing and contact tracing. They acted early and resolutely to CONTAIN. Us? Not so much.
