The size of the population has nothing to do with things at the present moment. Spread will continue at approx 33%/day until changes in behavior kick in.

This statistic is in no way an indication of the rate of increase in cases per unit of time. Many of these are people who have been sick but had not been tested, and suddenly, thousand upon thousands of tests are being given to people to confirm an illness they may have had for days. The bigger concern is the large number of medical personnel who were tested although asymptomatic. We don’t know what that split might be.

While we are likely to see significant growth for a few days there is no reason to think the spread here will be any worse than any place on earth.
