Bob: I used to own a company called Boarden (sp?) chemicals, part of their revenue comes from similar products,I think.Ticker symbol is BCU, but it is a limited partnership so you got to be careful with it, as the partnetship i believe is to expire some time in the near future or something like that, plus different accounting rules as well.Any way I made some money on them, they also used to distribute most of the profits to shareholders/unitholders,the yield was a whopping 23% when I owned it.

Bob, thanks for posting the Unocal news from Alaska. However, it seems to me that declining Asian demand is only one factor for the factory to close. The other and probably more important one is that their prices were not competitive anymore. No wonder with the US$ up some 33%+ on all these Asian currencies.

I have no insight into the fertilizrer markets and their players. I vaguely know of only one name in North American and this is Freeport McMoran - or a spin-off from them. I have no idea about their financials and stuff. Maybe "Potash of Saskatchewan" is another name, but for me it's only a name. In such a highly commoditized product, price is the competitive factor. Asian factories have a plus there at the moment according to this brain <g>. Maybe our Asian friends are a bit firmer on this.

Thanks for keeping an eye on this thread and your local happenings. Any news reports about tourism decline yet? Maybe only in summer, then.

BTW, we have zero degree Celsius in Zurich now, the coldest days this winter so far,

Thomas

Bob: Let me try again. If fertilizer is your cup of tea check this one out. It's called Terra Nitrogen (NYSE:TNH),they are not in Asia but in Iowa (big difference,i know). This is also a limited partnership and as such pay a high divident, some 16% or so,PE is a low 6 something, makes money, book value is $26.00,each unit sells for some $29.00 bucks etc etc. If you want to know more about them here is a URL, mind you i am not recommending it or anything,as I am hardly qualifed to do such things.
