Respond to of 217574 Mostly true... still keeping in mind Lincoln's: "You can fool all the people some of the time. And some of the people all the time. But you cannot fool all the people all the time. Certainly, true enough... that we didn't get here by accident. Every contrivance needs cooperation from others... and hindsight will be required before we know the whole story... which draws the boundaries in Lincoln's quote between "you" and "the people" ? Lincoln's origination was in context of campaign speeches , in which he (a Republican) attributed the motive to (a Democrat) Judge Douglas, his opponent. The burning issue of the day was slavery... and that was the subject in each of their debates. Today, what is "the subject" and what is it that is being masked ? Is it a new form of slavery, composed of an re-enabling of old and discredited ideas, and a re-ordering using the tools of modern society... requiring some "takings" have occurred without our awareness, or our consent, and, as a necessary condition in the dynamic, fooling enough of the people to make it work, on the one hand, and enough of the people to enable getting away with it on the other ? Reduce that as an equation... and all you are left with is an underlying, and time decaying, option... on time... with no way to extend the life of the option, other than to constantly re-hypothecate it prior to expiry ? And, throughout that time function, and its re-enablement... nothing we have that is known to work to correct errors in ideas, or to enable alternatives that avoid the inevitability of error... is allowed to be made operative ? Then, even free speech must be "contained"... lest some dangerous truth be spoken that crystalizes understanding, and spreading as crystals do, is too easily understood to be explained away ? In the end, anything that is unsustainable by design, will not be sustained, and in its failure it boils down to "the reveal", always occurring, as in the Wizard of Oz, at first with the direction: "pay no attention to the man behind the screen"... and with all sorts of contrivances intended to distract us from proper perception... which really only works to draw more attention to the problem ? I don't disagree, as it is always true, that there are local variations in the intensity in the impact of any storm. But, where that variation occurs... as it does in gangrene or blood poisoning... from some minor pricks at the point of origin, left (circa 2008) to fester and spread unchecked... until it reaches the heart of the system and corrupts it ? The right hand might avoid the contagion better than the left... to what end ? Medicine might be applied. Perhaps a bit of blood letting will help ? Maybe an intensely spiritual death dance with appropriately distracting costuming, a bit of smoke from burning bark to add to the mystery, and a shaking of rattles ? Perhaps the evil spirit of the financial Ebola will prove too much... and in our mourning, to help the spirit in passing... a laying on of hands is required ? Even then, a simple washing of things with bleach and sunshine might help to stop the corruption by killing the dark heart of it at the source... as tiny as it might appear to be, relative to the body as a whole ? And, upon that ending as it must.. what understanding will be left to be bequeathed, and to whom ? Is there some addiction that is the root ? One idea, that if exposed and removed, might work still to alter outcomes, and deliver better futures, if only we quit solving the problem by eating more of the poison ? No problem can be solved... while we remain ignorant that there is a problem... And, where the existence of the problem is forced to be exposed... no problem is solved while the truth of its origins and the nature of the dynamic in its function is suppressed ? A very long way to say... that bear market rally sure was short-lived...
