The number of cases and deaths seem to be correlated to the amount of testing done. Taking the infection seriously at the very beginning and quickly isolating carriers and treating them appears to be working. Japan and Germany are examples that did this and their results show it. Italy didn't. China finally got with the program after a two month denial and delay policy, and were able to contain the virus but at tremendous cost to their people and economy.

This appears to be an example of, spend a lot of money at the beginning and you avoid a very, very, very expensive problem later.
