It’s the same family, but not the same virus. Besides, a lot of the studies out there is are vitro or done on animal models. No less importantly, just think how many medications they’ve pulled off the shelves and banned even AFTER years of beautifully designed double blind studies and all the needed approvals.

One time, I personally went to a meeting of my hospital’s Pharmacy Committee and presented data on a medication (which was by then out for months), requesting that it would be added to the formulary. It passed, and was added - only to become banned some months later.

I’ve heard enough to believe that Chloroquine and it’s analogues work for CoViD. I doubt that they’ll prove to be the best - or safest. But for now, I’m all FOR using them a lot more - alone, and in promising combinations.
