I believe that China has successfully squelched the virus, via drastic measures... Far more drastic than what we're doing in the 'states.

If you shut down everything, halt the spread more or less completely while extant cases recover (and become non-transmitters), you've killed the exponential. Once you've got systematic testing/tracking/quarantine in place, you're in a position to quickly stanch flareups.

Answering your China question is easy for anyone who has ever worked in an industry that purchases from there: Independent verification is required for everything. Pharmaceutical APIs and excipients from China are a quality nightmare. Not sure why you'd think their government is any more open.
