One "Biggie" at least demured on the DMT-based standard for ADSL (BEL.) More importantly, though, remember that supporting development and adoption of a standard is far from committing to massive deployment -- it MAY lead to significant deployment, but it really just supports creation of an business option to do so. It seems very unlikely that any LEC will use ADSL for any video distribution, so you could envision a Bell South potentially delivering multichannel digital video via MMDS and also using ADSL for consumer data services in the same market. Ditto for SBC in some California markets.

Interest by a LEC in and support for an ADSL strategy does not preclude a simultaneous interest in MMDS -- remember, the LECs usually have a very hard time focussing, and indecision as to technology platforms often passes for "diversification" within the companies.
