a 17% VAT on gold

Ouch. That would tend to make our gold market "orderly" too. Explains why expectations that Shanghai might work to help balance out some of the "less orderly" market issues in NY and London hasn't come to fruition ?

Although, here, how it is treated varies a lot by state... but with a trend toward eliminating all taxation on "gold as money"... which can't be popular with the banks... but we have no sales tax on gold now in many states.

Might create another reason, which I had not considered, for buying in the form of PHYS, PSLV... since you do "technically" own physical... but you're not really taking possession of physical... so don't owe the tax in jurisdictions that charge a tax ?
