To me, the situation became serious on October 19th 1987. I was new immigrant in USA and had a family. Had a H1 visa only, and the factory I was working for closed soon after that date.

It's been serious since then. Many lives compromised, loss of economic support can have all sorts of knock on effects, in any country. I consider myself lucky so far only. Ones health is vital of course.

So I understand the concern.
